A Big Hello And Thank You

The Girl In The Wool Shop

Picture this. You wake up to a day off from your corporate job and decide to drag your other half on a trip to a lovely old town for a coffee and a mooch around their gorgeous shops (including one very lovely home décor shop by the name of Velvet Fern). A perfectly innocent day it seems, until you see your future right there in front of you… imagine a ray of light shining and the bells ringing just at that moment. What was that future you may ask. No, nothing romantic but in actual fact the opportunity you have been seeking for the last few years. That opportunity was the beautiful Grade II listed building on Broad Street, Ludlow housing The Wool Shop.

17 weeks later and I became the new owner and jumped into a whole new world of retail and customer service but so far I am loving it.

Many people have already been into the shop and said hello. In fact, the welcoming reception I have received has been really humbling and I am thankful to everyone who has dropped in so far or that has even commented on my social media posts.

What I have realised however is that I have not really introduced myself.

Hi, I’m Keely and I now own The Wool Shop on Broad Street 😊

I’m not a fan of photos but people insisted.

Keely Simpson, owner of the Wool Shop, Ludlow

Let’s roll back a bit further. Anyone who knows me knows I am creative and have always dabbled in all manner of crafts.

I spent a long time (back before it was super popular) making and decorating cakes and also enjoy paper craft, photography, sewing, knitting and crochet. Reading is also a huge passion of mine so other than crafts if you want to chat for hours about books then feel free to hit me up with some suggestions.

I digress!

I spent many years in the corporate world, legal recruitment to be precise, and as I reach the big 40 I realised I wanted to do something different and something I am passionate about. That’s what I mean when I talk about the ‘ray of light’ moment. The Wool Shop appeared almost out of the blue on trip we took on a whim. They say things happen for a reason and I am a firm believer in that.

Circling back to now (ooooh I will learn to stop the corporate speak eventually), I have been in the shop for 2 months and as we move into Spring I am so excited about what is to come. Whilst it will be gradual changes whilst I figure out the market, the customers and the fluctuations of the season, I look forward to keeping The Wool Shop alive. It has been a part of Ludlow for nearly 100 years, it would be a shame to let that go.

So please do support in any way you can. We might be called The Wool Shop but we have cotton fabrics and a wide array of haberdashery items. All of which will grow and evolve over time to keep with trends but also maintain some of the tradition of the town.

Let’s support Ludlow and small businesses!

You will hear more from me in this blog. Sometimes just thoughts and ramblings, sometimes information, sometimes ideas and inspiration.

Huge love to you all, The Girl in The Wool Shop (or Keely if you prefer) x
