The Art Of Thrumming

In knitting, thrumming is an old technique, popularised in places like Newfoundland and Labrador.

It is used to create incredibly warm garments like mittens, socks, and slippers.

Small tufts of unspun wool or roving (called “thrums”) are knitted directly into the stitches.

This creates a fuzzy, insulating interior lining that eventually felts down with wear to keep the wearer extremely warm.
